TheatreWorks embarked on the Continuum Asia Project (CAP) in 2003 in Luang Prabang, Laos, where the project focused on people-to-people collaboration. Based on the principle of capacity-building, CAP brought together elders from the Ramayana dance tradition of Laos, youths from the ancient Luang Prabang city, and artists of Asia. This video exhibition will showcase The Revival of Phralak Phralam and Mekong Diaries, both of which were created under CAP.
The Revival of Phralak Phralam saw the excavation of three episodes from the tales of the Ramayana. Through working with the old masters from the Royal Ballet Theatre in Luang Prabang, this Laotian tradition was extracted from the masters and imparted to the next generation.
Mekong Diaries is a collection of documentaries created by the Laotian youths from the Children’s Cultural Centre who had the opportunity to work with filmmakers Wu Wen Guang (China), Angel Shaw (Philippines, New York) and Jason Lai (Singapore).
